The GBI High-Speed Sorting, Tilt Tray Sorter is a high accuracy, high speed sortation system that provides the user with the flexibility of sorting. The Light Capacity Mechanism will handle most small items or small products that vary in size, shape, and packaging. This Tilt Tray Sorter will equally and simultaneously sort small items and packages, including lightweight poly bags, as well as items weighing up to 25 lbs. with the medium tray mechanism.

The Tilt Tray Sorter is excellent for fast sorting of a wide variety of products, such as;
flat garments, CD's, DVD's, cassettes and video tapes, jewelry, sunglasses, books, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and small packages.

The GBI Tilt Tray Sorter  with automatic induction, operates at 3,600 per induction station to 12,000 sorts per hour and up depending on specific configuration. The Tilt Tray Sorter is designed to require minimal maintenance, and is built in modules to allow fast and easy expansion.

Tilt Tray Mechanisms

Tilt tray mechanisms can be adapted at time of manufacture to the maximum weight and size of the product expected to be sorted. Drop guides and chutes may also be provided to enhance sorter accuracy and allow for accumulation before removal.

The light capacity tray mechanisms can sustain weights up to 5 lbs. and are used primarily for small items such as jewelry, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics,  check boxes, small parcels, in packaging such as jiffy bags, polybags, vacuum formed clam shells, and/or boxes.

The medium capacity tray mechanism can sustain weights up to 25 lbs. and are used primarily for larger packages, books, mail order catalogue items, flat garments, clothing, groceries, parcels, etc. The following sections describe the benefits each tray type has to offer and for which case they are best suited.

SPLIT-TRAY CARRIER - used to increase sort rate

GBI's Split-Tray carrier design incorporates two independent trays on the same carrier. This allows each side tray to tip independently of the adjacent tray traveling on the same carrier.

When using the Split-Tray on GBI’s High-Speed Tilt Tray Sorter, the normal carrier rate of 12,000 trays per hour now becomes 24,000 trays per hours since two trays per carrier are loaded with product and sorted simultaneously.

THE TILT TRAY AUTOMATED SORTER WILL:

  • Automatically and reliably sort individually packaged and bar coded products to designated drops.
  • Simultaneously sort mixed shapes of small boxes and light articles enclosed in poly bags.
  • Requires only two to three employees to induce product at a guaranteed rate of 6,000 trays per hour or faster using auto-induction.
  • Greatly reduce the time needed to assemble individual product by order or other criteria.
  • Record all product that has gone through the sorter.
  • Greatly reduce labor costs associated with manual sortation and verification (see option below).
  • Expand the sort window.
  • Recover more warehouse space.
  • Dynamically communicate with your existing software (see option below) to:
    -  generate packing slips
    -  flag completed orders
    -  update customer service information files
    -  track product
    -  and so on

Definition contributed by GBI to www.wikiMHEDA.org
A tilt-tray sorter is a high-speed, continuous-loop sortation conveyor that uses a technique of tilting a tray at a chute to slide the object into the chute.
